West Springfield police seek information on Derrick Gaither’s interaction with adolescents

WEST SPRINGFIELD — The West Springfield Police Department is seeking information about any interactions Derrick Gaither, 59, may have had with adolescents in the area. Gaither, whose last known address was in West Springfield, was arrested on January 29, 2025, for sexually assaulting a minor in Enfield, Connecticut.

According to a statement from the Enfield Police Department, Gaither established a relationship with the victim through in-person and social media interactions, gradually gaining the trust of the victim’s family over months, or possibly years. Police say he then used that trust to exploit the victim, leading to charges of: Sexual Assault 2nd Degree, Sexual Assault 4th Degree, and Risk of Injury to a Minor.

Gaither is currently being held on a $750,000 surety bond.
