Multiple shots fired at ‘targeted individual’ in Harvard Square station, suspect fled scene, police say

CAMBRIDGE — A man opened fire at a “targeted individual” on the southbound platform of the Harvard Square MBTA station Sunday afternoon, firing approximately 4 to 5 shots before fleeing the scene, according to the Transit Police Department.

Transit police were alerted to the gunfire at about 2:12 p.m.

“This is an active investigation [where] we are determining the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” Superintendent Richard Sullivan said in a statement.

No injuries were reported.

“Currently, there are NO victims and no evidence to suggest a victim was struck,” Sullivan said in a statement at 4:30 p.m.

Authorities had not announced any arrests as of 4:40 p.m.

A shelter-in-place order issued by Harvard University around 2:45 p.m. was lifted about 30 minutes later.
