ORANGE — On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Orange Police Officer Ben Kovacevic was on patrol when he observed a dark-colored pickup truck towing a trailer with a motorcycle secured to it parked in front of the large garage located at Chase Court.

“The Orange Police Department had received information over the previous two days that Lori Lanagan currently had several active warrants for her arrest. Lanagan is known to be in a dating relationship with David [last name redacted], who operates a newer model black Dodge pickup truck. Officers, including myself, are familiar with both Lanagan and [David] and were aware of the active warrants.”
Officer Kovacevic said that, earlier in the day, he spoke with a female reporting party who informed him that Lanagan and David had gone to Pembroke to purchase a motorcycle and would be returning to Chase Court with it sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
“The description provided of the truck and trailer matched the vehicle I later observed at the garage,” Officer Kovacevic said. Officer Kovacevic noted that the garage and property where the truck was parked was owned by a third party who was neither David nor Lanagan.
“[David] has claimed in the past that he rents the garage from [the owner]; however, Lieutenant [Adam] Cooley made contact with [the owner of the garage], who stated that [David] does not pay him rent and that officers were authorized to check the property if needed,” Officer Kovacevic said, adding that the owner provided authorization via email allowing officers to enter the garage.
“As I approached the garage with cruiser scene lights activated, I observed Lanagan run to the side of the building and enter through a secondary door, securing it behind her,” Officer Kovacevic said. “Due to fencing and limited access points, it was clear she had entered the interior of the garage to avoid contact. [David] and several other individuals were present inside the garage. [David] initially claimed that it was a female identified as Karen [last name redacted] who had run inside, but [Karen] denied this when asked.”

Officer Kovacevic said he conducted a protective sweep of the main area of the garage while waiting for Sergeant Jonathan Cole to arrive for assistance.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Cole spoke with David about the email confirming the property owner’s consent to enter the garage and later showed him the email Lt. Cooley had received.
“A more thorough sweep was then conducted, limited in scope to locating Lanagan,” Officer Kovacevic said. “She was located concealed in the trunk of a vehicle inside the garage.”
Officer Kovacevic said that when Lanagan was removed from the trunk, Lanagan began pulling away from officers in an attempt to flee.
“She broke free twice, but was stopped before exiting the garage. During this time, she opened a metal door which struck Sgt. Cole in the left forearm,” Officer Kovacevic said. “She continued to physically resist while officers attempted to get her into handcuffs. I was able to secure one wrist in handcuff before she dropped to the floor and continued struggling. After a short while, Sgt. Cole and I were able to gain control of her and she was placed into handcuffs without further incident.”
Lanagan was transported to the Orange Police Department for booking.
“A records check confirmed three active warrants, all of which were non-bailable for probation violations,” Officer Kovacevic said.
Lanagan was subsequently transported to the Franklin County House of Correction and held without bail.
“The BC [Bail Commissioner] for this was Marianne Fitcher who advised no bail due to the VOP [violation of probation] status of the warrants,” Officer Kovacevic explained.
Lori A. Lanagan, 48, of Athol, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Warrant; Default/Straight
- Warrant; Straight
- Warrant; Straight
- Resist Arrest
Lanagan’s arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 21, 2025, in Orange District Court.
