FITCHBURG — Fitchburg Fire Chief Dante Suarez has been placed on leave pending the results of an external investigation.
Suarez has been on paid leave since Feb. 26, 2026, Boston.com reported. Assistant Chief Patrick Haverty has been appointed acting chief while the matter is under review.
Suarez served as provisional chief beginning in 2021 before being promoted to chief in 2023.
In a statement cited by NBC Boston, Mayor Sam Squailia’s office said it could not provide additional details because the matter is a personnel issue.
