Bourne police, Bourne Fire and Rescue, and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a black 2012 Chevrolet Silverado in the westbound lane facing eastbound. Police said the vehicle sustained significant damage and was entangled in power lines from the downed pole.

The driver and sole occupant of the truck, a 36-year-old male from Brewster, was able to get out of the vehicle on his own. He was evaluated at the scene by Bourne Fire and Rescue and then taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Sandwich Road was closed in both directions during the investigation and while repairs were made to the utility pole. Bourne police said the road reopened at 8:20 a.m. Monday. Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation assisted with redirecting traffic, while Eversource and Comcast helped shut off power to the affected lines. Marc’s Towing removed the truck from the roadway.

According to police, the investigation determined the driver was impaired by drug use and was using a mobile device at the time of the crash.

  • OUI – Drugs (Subsequent Offense)
  • Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  • Marked lanes violation
