Traffic stop in Worcester leads to gun charges for 50-year-old man

WORCESTER — On Friday, March 27, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Worcester police officers saw a driver fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Houghton and Grafton streets.

According to the Worcester Police Department, after pulling the vehicle over, officers noticed the driver repeatedly reaching toward the passenger seat. The officers, who were consequently concerned for their safety, then asked the driver to step out of the vehicle.

During an inventory of the vehicle, police located a firearm without a serial number under the driver’s seat.

Further investigation revealed the driver did not have a license to carry, according to police.

The driver, identified as Jabiel Zayas, 50, was arrested and charged with operating with a suspended license, failure to stop for a posted stop sign, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity firearm, and defacing a firearm serial number.
