One person airlifted to hospital after crashing into Lancaster Street bridge

Leominster — At around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, one person was sent to the hospital after crashing into the Lancaster Street bridge.

At 9:20 a.m., Mayor Dean Mazzarella announced on Facebook, “There was a bad accident, one car into the bridge on Lancaster Street.”

The individual, whose identity and condition has not yet been released, was transported to Leominster Hospital, then airlifted by helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Lancaster Street (on 117) from Hannaford Supermarket to Eden Glen, including lower Graham Street, was closed to traffic for over three hours following the crash. It reopened at around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Leominster Police Chief Aaron Kennedy, the crash is under investigation.
