Nurse Stabbed By Patient At Heywood Hospital In Gardner

The nurse was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment. The suspect was held on $100,000 bail.

GARDNER – A New Hampshire man was arrested for stabbing a nurse at Heywood Hospital Monday night.

The suspect, David Nichols, 76, of 88 Laurel Drive, Apt. 2, Greenville, New Hampshire, was being treated in the emergency room for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the time of the incident.

According to a police report obtained by WCVB, after pulling the cords from a monitor, Nichols grabbed the neck of the nurse who came to check on him and stabbed her with a pocket knife.

The nurse was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment.

Nichols was charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon and attempt to commit a crime.

He was held on $100,000 bail.
