
FITCHBURG – A 36-year-old Leominster man was arraigned on a murder charge in Fitchburg District Court today after a man he allegedly stabbed earlier in the summer finally succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Jeremy A. Cruz, 36, of Leominster, allegedly stabbed Jesus Maisonet Davila, 45, shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, in the area of 199 Main Street in Fitchburg.
After the stabbing, Davila was transported to a Worcester hospital, where he remained until he passed away on Aug. 6.
Cruz was initially charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and armed assault to murder. Following a hearing on July 10, Cruz was found to be dangerous by a judge and held without bail.
The additional charge of murder Cruz was arraigned for today was added to the two aforementioned charges.
Cruz was held without bail following his arraignment today and is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept.14.
Detectives from the Fitchburg Police Department and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are still investigating the cause of the fatal stabbing.
