SOMERVILLE – On Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, at about 9:35 p.m., Officers Glenn McCune and Salvatore Fusco of the Somerville Police Department were dispatched to 46 Richdale Avenue following a report of a motor vehicle break-in in progress outside the residence.

When the officers arrived on scene, the suspect – later identified as Joshua Sullivan – was restrained by several bystanders who initially caught him in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, a red 2014 Cadillac CTS with New Hampshire plates.
“I immediately placed Mr. Sullivan in handcuffs and had him sit on the sidewalk,” Officer MCCune said. “At this point Mr. Sullivan was read his Miranda rights from a card I keep in my vest pocket, to which he stated that he understood them.”
Sullivan, 43, is a resident of 21 Walden Square Road in Cambridge.
While searching Sullivan following his arrest, police found “an unidentified amount” of blue pills believed to be Xanax inside a small black pouch that was hanging from the drawstring of his pants.
“When asked, Mr. Sullivan stated that those pills are ‘fake Xanny bars, they are Benzos,’” Officer McCune explained.
Officer McCune then spoke with one of the witnesses who said that he happened to be looking out his window when he saw a man – later identified as Sullivan – going through his neighbor’s car. After the man alerted his neighbor to the break-in, several residents of the neighborhood ran out to the vehicle to restrain Sullivan while a witness called 911.
Officer McCune then spoke with the vehicle owner who confirmed what his neighbor said of the incident. The vehicle owner added that his vehicle was unlocked at the time of the incident.
Sullivan was transported to the Somerville Police Department where he was booked on the following charges: Breaking & Entering Vehicle/Boat Nighttime For Felony and Possession of a Class E Drug.
