DORCHESTER – A 31-year-old Dorchester woman is in critical condition after she was struck by lighting while walking her dog on the Savin Hill Beach boardwalk at 3:35 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
According to Massachusetts State Police, the woman, who had been walking her dog along the boardwalk, stopped to speak to a 49-year-old woman when she was struck by lightning.
“While they were speaking, a lightning bolt struck the area where they were standing, throwing both women into the air,” Massachusetts State Police said in a statement. “The 31-year-old woman was thrown onto the beach and was unresponsive. Witnesses called 911 and began performing CPR. Boston EMS and Troopers responded to the scene and the woman was transported to Boston Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.”
The 49-year-old woman, who was thrown in a different direction by the force of the blast, is not believed to have been struck by lightning, police say.
The 49-year-old woman did not get medically treated at the scene, telling police she would make her own arrangements for a medical evaluation.
