A recently declassified document from the UFO Special Collection in the CIA’s Freedom of Information Act Electronic Reading Room on CIA.gov, describes an unusual incident that occurred in Corrientes, Argentina, on October 10, 1991. The document, titled “Metal Object Falls on Private House in Corrientes,” was initially classified and later made partially available to the public on January 31, 2011. The released portion includes page 11 of a 13-page report.

The released document is a news report from Télam Sociedad del Estado (TELAM), Argentina’s national news agency. According to the report, local police investigated an incident in which a 15-kilogram (~33-pound) metal object fell through the roof of the Romero family’s home at 4000 Independencia Street, which is approximately 30 blocks from downtown Corrientes. Described as “strange,” the object, green in color and measuring 35 centimeters (1 foot 2 inches) in diameter, crashed through the roof and landed on the couple’s bed, causing damage to the roof but resulting in no injuries.

The Romero family reported the incident to the 5th Police Precinct, but despite an investigation the origin of the object remains unknown. The report suggested it could have beena cast iron piece that came loose from a satellite or a flying object.”
