UPDATE: Man in late 60s, 2 cats, killed in early morning condo fire in Leominster

LEOMINSTER — A man in his late 60s died in an early morning fire in a condo located at 78 Meadow Pond Drive in Leominster.

According to Leominster Fire Chief Robert Sideleau II, the fire broke out around 2 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered a fire in the living room of a condo unit, where they also located a man in his late 60s with limited mobility who had sustained serious injuries.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Authorities have not yet released his identity.

Two cats were also killed in the blaze and another resident was displaced by the fire.

Although the cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials noted that evidence of smoking materials and home oxygen equipment were found in the condo unit where the fire broke out.
