Leominster man wins $2.5 million prize on scratch ticket

LEOMINSTER — Kirk Phinney of Leominster won the $2.5 million dollar prize on Mass Lottery’s holiday-themed $10 scratch ticket game dubbed “$2,500,000 Merry & Bright.”

Phinney bought the winning ticket at Quick Stop Liquor located at 531 N Main St. in Leominster on January 10, 2025.

According to masslottery.com, Phinney chose the annuity payout option for his prize and received the first of 20 annual payments of $125,000 (before taxes). He plans to use his winnings to travel and buy a new car.

For selling the winning ticket, Quick Stop Liquor will receive a $25,000 bonus.

The “$2,500,000 Merry & Bright” ticket is among six holiday-themed tickets launched by Mass Lottery on October 15, 2024.
