LEOMINSTER ยญโ€” On Thursday, December 12, 2025, at around 9:40 p.m., Officers Renzo Vasconcelos and Nicholas Rice of the Leominster Police Department were dispatched to Room 249 of the Motel 6 located at 48 Commercial Road following a report of an unwanted guest.

Upon arrival, the officers spoke with Esmeralda, the front desk clerk. She informed them that she wanted the occupants of Room 249 to vacate the premises due to excessive noise that had prompted multiple complaints.

โ€œShe stated the room was booked to a Chad McCann,โ€ Officer Rice said. โ€œI asked how many people were in the room and she said she believed there were three males and one female. I requested additional units. I explained to Esmeralda that she needed to trespass them in order for them to leave.โ€

When backup units arrived, Officers Rice and Vasconcelos, along with the additional officers, proceeded to Room 249.

โ€œI knocked on the door and spoke to a male party later identified as Joshua [last name redacted],โ€ Officer Rice said. โ€œI asked if Chad was in there and he stated that he was the only one in the room. We entered and confirmed it was only Josh. I grabbed a knife and placed it out of reach of Josh. We explained that the front desk wants them to leave and he stated he would gather his belongings and leave.โ€

Officer Rice asked Joshua if he could contact McCann and tell him that he needed to leave as well.

โ€œWhile in the room with Josh, Chad arrived,โ€ Officer Rice said. โ€œWe explained that the front desk wanted them to leave. Chad became very upset. There was a female, later identified as Melissa [last name redacted], with Chad. I had Officer [Shane] Crawford go grab Esmeralda so she could formally trespass them from the property.โ€

According to police, Chad S. McCann, 31, is a resident of 54 Pamela Lane, Amesbury, MA.

Shortly thereafter, Officer Crawford returned to the room with Esmeralda, who told the occupants that they had been trespassed and they had to leave the room.

โ€œChad was arguing the entire time and kept saying he was going to call his father in Brazil,โ€ Officer Rice said. โ€œWe explained politely that he could call him when he was off the property. Chad stated that he had a traumatic brain injury. I tried to reason with Chad and simply explain that he could come back in the morning and discuss getting a refund with the manager. Chadโ€™s friend also tried to assist police in getting him to leave and it was unsuccessful. I did everything but get on my hands and knees and beg for Chad to leave.โ€

After Officer Rice told McCann numerous times to leave and he refused, the officer told McCann that he was going to be placed under arrest for trespassing after notice.

โ€œOfficer Rice told Chad to place his hands behind his back so he can place handcuffs on him and he refused,โ€ Officer Vasconcelos said. โ€œOfficer Crawford and Officer [Tiffany] Craven then attempted to put handcuffs on Chad and he kept shouting, โ€˜I am not arrest!โ€™ Chad kept pulling his arms away from Officer Crawford and Officer Craven.โ€

Officer Vasconcelos said he then threw McCann to the ground to gain control of him.

โ€œOfficer Crawford and I then drew out our tasers,โ€ Officer Vasconcelos said. โ€œI activated the lasers and lights on my taser. I then told Chad he would be tased if he did not place his hands behind his back. Officer Craven and Officer Rice were then able to place handcuffs on Chad.โ€

After he was handcuffed, McCann was transported to the Leominster Police Station for booking. The other two occupants of Room 249 gathered their belongings and left the room without incident, according to police.

McCann was charged with trespass and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned in Leominster District Court on December 13, 2025. Following his arraignment, he was released on his own personal recognizance under the condition that he stay away from and not contact the Motel 6 on Commercial Road.

McCannโ€™s next court date was a pretrial conference scheduled for Jan. 27, 2025.
