SHREWSBURY — On Monday, April 21, 2025, at approximately 10:14 p.m., Shrewsbury police officers were dispatched to Gifford Drive following a report of a suspicious male walking through yards, looking into cars, and hiding in bushes.
According to a statement from the Shrewsbury Police Department, when the first responding officers were unable to locate the male, a perimeter was quickly set up with additional responding officers to conduct a more thorough search of the area. In addition, the Shrewsbury Police Department’s drone unit responded to the scene and was deployed just after the search began.
At approximately 11:45 p.m., Officer Jordan Carroll spotted the suspect at the corner of Route 140 and Merriam Avenue, which prompted the suspect to flee on foot. Five other responding officers on scene in the immediate area joined Officer Carroll with the foot pursuit, according to the Shrewsbury Police Department.
Shortly thereafter, Lieutenant Kevin Caviston tackled the suspect to the ground as he attempted to flee through a fence. After a brief struggle, the suspect was taken into custody.
During a recent arrest, officers discovered multiple items in the suspect’s possession believed to be stolen, including several cell phones, debit cards, and various items bearing other individuals’ names.
The suspect, identified as Gary Goyette, 30, of Worcester, MA, was arrested and charged with:
- Receiving Stolen Property over $1200
- Carrying a Dangerous Weapon (knife)
- Trespassing
- Resisting Arrest
Goyette also had two outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest:
- Warrant #1 (Worcester): For armed assault to murder, use of a firearm during a felony, carrying a loaded firearm without a permit, possession of ammunition without a permit, intimidation of a witness, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.​
- Warrant #2 (Worcester): Charge of assault and battery.
