Yarmouth firefighters extinguish attic blaze at Camp Street apartment

YARMOUTH — At 6:07 p.m. on May 12, 2025, the Yarmouth Fire Department received a 911 call from a resident at 193 Camp Street, Building F, Apartment 1.

According to a statement from the Yarmouth’s Fire Chief Enrique Arrascue, the caller reported seeing smoke and flames coming from a light fixture in her apartment.

When Yarmouth fire crews first arrived on scene, they observed smoke coming from the second floor of the apartment complex.

All on-duty and available off-duty Yarmouth firefighters were called in to assist and a fire engine from Hyannis also responded to the scene as part of the initial assignment.

Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack and located a significant fire in the attic above the second floor. The fire was extinguished quickly with minimal exposure to neighboring units, according to the Yarmouth Fire Department.

The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes. Crews remained on scene for a few hours for “extensive overhaul operations,” according to the department.

The Yarmouth Fire Department said the cause of the fire has yet to be determined and is currently under investigation by the Yarmouth Fire Department with assistance from the State Fire Marshall.

No civilians or first responders were injured in the blaze.
