Commuter rail service to resume at Haverhill Station June 30 following bridge replacement

HAVERHILL — Regular commuter rail service will return to Haverhill Station on Monday, June 30, following the completion of the South Elm Street Bridge replacement project, according to Keolis Commuter Services, the MBTA’s operations and maintenance partner.

Since construction began, passengers traveling between Haverhill and Bradford stations relied on shuttle vans while the nearly 120-year-old bridge was replaced. The MBTA used accelerated bridge construction techniques to reduce the impact on customers and traffic, installing a modern single-span bridge with a ballasted steel deck that Keolis says will offer passengers a smoother ride.

Crews also made roadway, sidewalk, and drainage improvements along South Elm Street as well.

The updated commuter rail schedule will be posted soon at mbta.com/cr.

Keolis Commuter Services has operated and maintained the MBTA’s commuter rail system—the sixth largest in North America—for more than a decade.
