ORANGE — On Thursday, August 7, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Officer Evangeline Cakounes of the Orange Police Department was driving south on South Main Street when she observed a car with Massachusetts plates which she recognized as belonging to Tyler Brailey, who she knew had a recently suspended driver’s license.

“I saw Tyler working on a residence so I knew he may begin driving the vehicle,” Officer Cakounes said.
According to police, Tyler J. Brailey, 36, is a resident of East Myrtle Street in Orange, MA. Court documents indicate he’s single and works as a painter.

“I parked a little way down the street and shortly after saw Tyler Brailey get into the driver seat of the vehicle,” Officer Cakounes said. “I know Brailey from past interactions at the police department. As Brailey began to drive north down South Main Street I pulled out behind him and activated my blue lights. Brailey did have a large amount of brush in the back of his truck which was not secured at all by either a tailgate or a tarp over the top to stop brush from falling out.”
Officer Cakounes said Brailey turned onto East Myrtle Street and then pulled over.
“As I approached the vehicle, I made contact with Brailey and his brother, [name redacted], who was sitting in the passenger seat,” Officer Cakounes said. “I advised Brailey the reason for the stop which was his suspended license. Brailey asked if it was in regards to his failure to pay child support which I explained I did not know but would look it up for him. As I went back to look, dispatch advised that the vehicle was also in an expired/nonrenewable status. I then went back up to the window and asked Brailey to step out of the vehicle. I advised him that he was being placed under arrest and he was handcuffed… I then brought Brailey to the back of my cruiser where his girlfriend [name redacted] spoke with him for a short time.”
Officer Cakounes then transported Brailey back to the Orange Police Department for booking.
Officer Sydney Richardson was then dispatched to the scene and stayed with Bailey’s vehicle until it was towed by Dale’s Auto back to Bailey’s residence on East Myrtle Street.
“The plates were removed and entered into property until Brailey can correct his action,” Officer Cakounes said.
Brailey’s driver’s license was also confiscated and logged into property due to its suspended status.
“It should be noted that while waiting in the booking room, Brailey began to mess with the handcuffs (he was secured by one hand to the bench). Brailey was pulling, tugging and twisting the cuffs so much that myself and Officer Richardson went in over four times to see what he was doing,” Officer Cakounes said. “Each time Brailey would respond with, ‘Just trying to break out of here.’ One time he was messing with the hook on the wall and Officer Richardson told Brailey that if he intentionally broke anything in the booking room he would be charged with another crime.”
Brailey’s bail was set at $100.
Officer Cakounes said that Brailey’s girlfriend brought him the money and he was released “with the knowledge that he has court in the morning of August 8, 2025, at 8:30 a.m.”
Officer Cakounes noted that right before releasing Brailey, she attempted to undo the handcuff and noticed that the cuff attached to the bench was stuck.

“I asked Brailey if he did anything to it and he said no and then smiled. He then said maybe I just had to pull hard on it,” Officer Cakounes said. “After I was able to get the cuff off, I saw that it was bent and unable to re-shut. I believe that while Brailey was ‘trying to escape’ (his own words), he bent the cuff and intentionally broke it. For that reason, Brailey is being charged with vandalizing property.”
Tyler Brailey was charged with the following:
- Operating Motor Vehicle with License Suspended
- Unregistered Motor Vehicle
- Load Unsecured/Uncovered
- Vandalize Property
