Blackstone announces new Selfie Elfie location, launches food drive

BLACKSTONE — The Blackstone Parks and Recreation Commission is relocating its annual Selfie Elfie display to the Blackstone Municipal Center this season and launching a holiday food drive to support the Blackstone Food Pantry.

In a statement, Town Administrator Chad Lovett said that after reviewing the results of a recent community opinion poll, the commission decided to centralize all Selfie Elfie photo opportunities at the Blackstone Municipal Center, providing families with one convenient location to visit throughout December.

Beginning Dec. 1, a large donation “gift” box provided by Walsh Builders will be placed outside Town Hall for residents who would like to contribute items to the Blackstone Food Pantry. The box will remain in place through Dec. 24. If it is brought indoors overnight, donations may be delivered to the Blackstone Police Station.

In addition to the food drive, the commission has created a list of daily “Acts of Kindness” for families to try throughout the month of December. The list is available on the town’s website and will also be distributed during the annual tree lighting at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30.

“This felt like the right year to rethink Selfie Elfie while keeping the fun that families look forward to,” Parks and Recreation Chairperson Celeste Langlois said. “We hope residents enjoy the new setup and join us in helping neighbors who need extra support. Small acts can make a big difference.”
