Pedestrian, 68, killed in three-vehicle crash on River Street in Haverhill

HAVERHILL — A 68-year-old man was killed Tuesday evening after he was struck by a vehicle while walking along River Street near Hunter Avenue in Haverhill, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.

The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on the Route 110–113 corridor in the Bradley Brook neighborhood, when the driver of a 2008 Volvo XC90 allegedly struck the pedestrian. The Volvo was then struck by a pickup truck before it hit a third vehicle.

Haverhill firefighters and Pridestar Trinity EMS responded to the scene and provided emergency medical aid to the pedestrian, who was transported to Merrimack Valley Hospital in Lawrence, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the office of District Attorney Paul F. Tucker, the driver of the Volvo and an infant passenger were also transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.

The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and State Police Crime Scene Services Section are assisting the Haverhill Police Department with the ongoing investigation.
