Southbridge police seize sawed-off shotgun and arrest man after Chapin Street disturbance

SOUTHBRIDGE — On Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at approximately 5:11 p.m., Southbridge police officers were dispatched to 43 Chapin Street following a report of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a man later identified as 35-year-old Patrick Skinner, who lives at the address, according to a Southbridge Police Department press release.

During their investigation, officers received information about possible firearms inside the residence. Police reported recovering three firearms, a safe believed to contain additional firearm-related items, and body armor marked “POLICE.” One of the firearms was identified as a sawed-off shotgun with a barrel length below the legal limit. According to the Southbridge Police Department, all of the firearms were unsecured at the time they were found.

A records check showed Skinner does not have a valid License to Carry (LTC) or Firearms Identification Card (FID) and is legally prohibited from possessing body armor due to prior felony convictions, police said.

Skinner was arrested at the scene and transported to the Southbridge Police Department for booking.

Patrick Skinner, 35, of 43 Chapin Street, Southbridge, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a sawed-off shotgun
  • Possession of a firearm without a License to Carry (two counts)
  • Improper storage of a firearm (three counts)

Bail was set at $30,000, and Skinner was held pending his arraignment in Dudley District Court.
