Dudley man arrested for OUI after driving erratically near closed Cumberland Farms

DUDLEY — On Sunday, January 11, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Officer Byron Lara of the Dudley Police Department was clearing an alarm call at the Cumberland Farms on West Main Street when he observed a black Ford Edge with Georgia plates enter the business’ parking lot.

“At that time, all exterior lights in the parking lot were off, and the establishment was closed for business,” Officer Lara said.

Officer Lara said the vehicle proceeded toward the first parking lot exit, which is marked by a stop sign and a “right turn only” sign, then exited by making a left turn onto West Main Street, driving over the curb with both the front and rear left tires.

“I exited the parking lot and positioned my cruiser behind the vehicle, which was traveling eastbound on West Main Street,” Officer Lara said, adding that the vehicle was traveling about 10 mph in a posted 25-mph zone and slowed to a near stop twice without apparent cause.

“Based on these observations, I activated my cruiser’s overhead emergency blue lights to initiate a motor vehicle stop,” Officer Lara said. “The vehicle slowed and came to a complete stop in the middle of the eastbound travel lane. I notified dispatch of the motor vehicle stop and exited my cruiser to make contact with the operator, later identified as Selien Dorvilus.”

According to police, Selien Dorvilus, 40, is a resident of Dudley, MA.

“I made contact with Dorvilus at the passenger side of the vehicle and advised him that the stop was initiated due to the improper turn while exiting the parking lot, and his operation at a speed significantly below the posted limit,” Officer Lara said.

Officer Lara then asked Dorvilus to provide him with driver’s license and registration.

“He was unable to immediately locate the requested documents. After locating his wallet, Dorvilus fumbled with it and had difficulty manipulating its contents,” Officer Lara said. “After several minutes, he produced a Georgia driver’s license but was unable to produce the vehicle’s registration. While Dorvilus searched for the requested documents, I observed an open black plastic bag on the front passenger seat. Inside the bag were approximately five small, unopened bottles of whiskey. I asked Dorvilus if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages; however, he appeared to have difficulty forming words when responding.”

Officer Lara added that, during this interaction, Dorvilus’ eyes appeared to be watery and bloodshot.

“His facial expression appeared sluggish and drowsy, and his speech was thick-tongued and slurred,” Officer Lara noted. “I also detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his mouth when he attempted to speak. To this point in contact, I observed classic signs of alcohol intoxication, which I’ve encountered in countless individuals who are noticeably impaired as a result of alcohol consumption.”

At this time, Sergeant Chandler Boyd arrived on scene to assist, Officer Lara said.

“Dorvilus was advised to exit the vehicle so standardized field sobriety tests could be conducted. While exiting the vehicle, Dorvilus had to hold onto the driver’s door for support and appeared extremely unsteady on his feet,” Officer Lara said. “I instructed him to walk toward the rear of my cruiser; however, he was unable to do so without assistance. I took Dorvilus by the arm and escorted him to the rear of my cruiser.”

Officer Lara said he told Dorvilus to stand with both feet together on the solid white fog line located to the right of the eastbound lane.

“Despite being shown the location of the fog line multiple times, Dorvilus was unable to comply,” Officer Lara said. “He continued to sway back and forth and asked why he had been removed from the vehicle. I explained that he was removed due to my observations and to conduct field sobriety testing.”

Officer Lara said that after several minutes of explanation and demonstration, Dorvilus remained unable to stand without assistance.

“Based on my observations and his inability to safely perform field sobriety testing, Dorvilus was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol,” Officer Lara said.

Dorvilus was handcuffed behind his back, searched, and placed in the prisoner compartment of a cruiser on scene.

“Dispatch was requested to notify the on-duty tow operator to respond to my location and take possession of the vehicle,” Officer Lara explained. “During the motor vehicle inventory, approximately fifteen small empty bottles of whiskey were located in the center console, along with the five unopened bottles of whiskey previously observed in plain view on the front passenger seat.”

Dorvilus was transported to the Dudley Police Department for booking.

“During booking, Dorvilus was advised of his OUI Miranda rights and asked to submit to a chemical breath test,” Officer Lara said. “Dorvilus stated that he understood his rights and refused to submit to the breath test.”

Selien Dorvilus, 40, of Dudley, was charged with the following violations/offenses:

  • OUI-Liquor or .08%
  • Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Improper Turn

Dorvilus’ bail was set at personal recognizance.

On Jan. 13, 2026, Dorvilus was arraigned in Dudley District Court. Following his arraignment, he was released on personal recognizance. Dorvilus’ next court date is a pretrial hearing scheduled for March 12, 2026.
