Woman, 45, dies after two-vehicle crash in Newton

NEWTON — A 45-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle crash in Newton Tuesday afternoon, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Newton Police Chief Timothy Cohoon said the crash occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on March 17, 2026, in the area of Walnut Street and Judith Road.

According to a preliminary investigation, the operator of one of the vehicles, identified as a 45-year-old woman, struck a tree after the initial collision. She was transported from the scene and later died from her injuries.

The operator of the other vehicle did not sustain serious injuries, officials said.

Former Attleboro Mayor Paul Heroux said traffic complaints were among the most frequent issues raised during his time in office.

“The way to keep people safe on the streets is through the ‘three Es,'” Heroux said. “Education (signs), enforcement (fines), engineering (narrowing roadways, speedbumps).”

The crash remains under investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Newton police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
