Three-alarm fire damages Franklin home after flames reach propane tank

FRANKLIN — On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at approximately 5:04 p.m., the Metacomet Emergency Communications Center received calls reporting a possible structure fire at 35 Elm Street.

According to the Franklin Fire Department, when Franklin fire units arrived on scene, they observed heavy fire in the residence.

All occupants had exited the home prior to firefighters’ arrival.

Firefighters initially made an aggressive interior attack, but crews were quickly driven out by the rapid progression of the fire and heat impinging upon a propane tank in the rear of the residence.

The conditions caused firefighters to shift to a defensive operation, according to the Franklin Fire Department.

The fire quickly escalated to a third alarm, bringing in mutual aid from the following fire departments: Attleboro, Bellingham, Foxboro, Hopkinton, Medfield, Medway, Mendon, Milford, Norfolk, Norwood, Plainville, Walpole, and Wrentham.

Franklin police, the Franklin Water Department, the Red Cross, and utility companies also assisted at the scene.

The Canton, Millis and North Attleboro fire departments provided station coverage during the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Franklin Fire Department.
