OMAN — Two U.S. Army crew members were rescued after their AH-64 Apache helicopter went down near the Strait of Hormuz Monday.
According to U.S. Central Command, the crew members were patrolling regional waters near the coast of Oman, when their helicopter went down.
The soldiers were rescued at approximately 7:33 p.m. on June 8 by U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and the 82nd Airborne Division, with support from Air Force and Navy units, about two hours after their helicopter went down.
U.S. Central Command reported the soldiers are in stable condition. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
The incident came as Iran accused the U.S. of violating a tenuous ceasefire agreement established in early April, after U.S. forces struck Iranian coastal radar sites on June 6 following the U.S. military’s downing of Iranian drones that CENTCOM said were targeting maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
