STURBRIDGE — On Thursday, June 18, 2026, just before 1:00 a.m., the Sturbridge police, Southbridge police, and Massachusetts State Police troopers from the Sturbridge Barracks responded to reports that a vehicle had been driven into the Sturbridge Plaza Hotel at 400 Haynes Street.
According to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.’s office, there were then additional reports of shots being fired into the hotel, striking a guest.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect drove to the hotel while attempting to locate two people known to the suspect.
Officers who responded to the scene located a guest suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Harrington Hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to UMass Lakeside, where he remains in critical condition, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office.
Investigators do not believe the victim was one of the people the suspect had been seeking.
According to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office, two officers and a trooper made contact with the suspect and attempted to speak with her. The suspect then discharged her firearm again, resulting in a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
EMS personnel rendered extensive lifesaving measures, including use of a LUCAS machine, but the suspect was pronounced dead.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by the Sturbridge Police Department, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, State Police Crime Scene Services, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Firearms Identification Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Worcester County District Attorney’s office said no names are being released at this time.
