ATTLEBORO — On Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at approximately 2:53 p.m., the Attleboro Fire Department responded to I-295 North near mile marker 3.4 following a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer.
According to the Attleboro Fire Department, heavy traffic and gridlock made it difficult for crews to reach the scene of the crash. Emergency vehicles entered the highway and traveled south in the northbound lanes to access the scene.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found two tractor-trailers and an SUV that had been involved in a crash. One of the tractor-trailers, which was carrying a load of sand, had rolled onto its side and was blocking all northbound lanes.
Paramedics assessed and triaged those involved for injuries. Two individuals, the male driver of the overturned tractor-trailer and the female driver of the SUV, were transported to area hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening.
The Attleboro Fire Department reported that the overturned tractor-trailer was also leaking a significant amount of vehicle fluids. Firefighters used containment bins and sand to control the spill and prevent the fluids from reaching the soil nearby and storm drains.
Attleboro firefighters remained at the scene while a towing company uprighted the tractor-trailer and secured it for removal.
All northbound lanes of I-295 remained closed until approximately 5:15 p.m.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
