NORTON — On Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at approximately 7:39 p.m., the Norton Fire Department responded to Mike & Lenny’s Pizza at 4 Olympia Street after the restaurant’s fire alarm system activated.
According to Norton Fire Chief Shawn Simmons, when fire crews arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the basement door at the rear of the pizza parlor, which had officially opened just two days earlier, on Oct. 8.
The first engine to arrive launched an aggressive interior attack despite limited visibility, Chief Simmons said. Firefighters brought the flames under control within 20 minutes and began ventilating the structure to clear smoke from the windowless basement.
The restaurant was open for business at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
“The fire deployment coincided with two simultaneous medical calls, leaving only a single Norton engine available to respond,” Chief Simmons said.
Mutual aid at the scene was provided by the Attleboro, Taunton, and North Attleborough fire departments. The Mansfield Fire Department provided station coverage.
“We’d like to thank our mutual partners who provided key support as we worked to quickly contain this fire,” Chief Simmons said. “In this case, the commercial fire alarm system worked as intended, alerting us to the fire early and giving us more time to fight it before the entire structure became fully involved.”
Building and utility inspectors also responded to the scene.
The Norton Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
