ORLEANS — On Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a barn fire off Horseshoe Lane in South Orleans.
According to Orleans Fire-Rescue, firefighters arrived to find a 60-by-40-foot barn fully engulfed in flames.
A full department recall was issued, and firefighters from Eastham, Harwich and Brewster were automatically dispatched to assist.
Orleans Fire-Rescue said that since Horsehoe Lane is in an area that has no fire hydrants, tankers were requested from the Wellfleet Fire Department, Truro Firefighters Local 5281 and West Barnstable Fire Department.

The tankers had to shuttle water from a hydrant nearly a mile away, hampering efforts to extinguish the fire.
The fire was brought under control in just over an hour. Firefighters remained at the scene for several more hours extinguishing hot spots.
No civilians or firefighters were injured, and no animals were inside the barn at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
