Sterling Police Log Highlights [June 27 – July 3, 2022]

Monday, June 27

Time: 7:42 a.m.

Call Reason: Vandalism

Action: Services Rendered     

Sterling police went to Memorial Park following reports of vandalism to a steel picnic table near the porta potty. Police noted that one corner of the picnic table had been bent down.

Call Reason: Injured Wildlife

Action: Services Rendered

A woman called in to report that she found a young bunny with a leg injury. The Animal Control Officer was advised to pick up the bunny and transport it to Tufts Wildlife Clinic for care.

Time: 4:15 p.m.

Call Reason: 911 

Action: Referred to another agency

A man said that as he was on the expressway of Interstate 190, a vehicle cut him off. Then both he and the other driver stopped on the offramp to Exit 14. According to the 911 caller, while stopped on the off ramp, the other driver reached for a weapon in the driverside door and pulled a knife on him.

A motorist reported that “youths” and “children” were opening and closing the doors of a large passenger van while driving on the Interstate 190 Expressway.

Friday, July 1

Call Reason: 911 Hang-up/Missdial

Police responded to an abandoned 911 call from John Christian Way. As it turns out, the call was made by a child playing with a hand me down cell phone.

Saturday, July 2

Time: 9:13 p.m.

Call Reason: Disturbance (General)

Action: Services rendered       

A woman on Roper Road reported that her neighbor was shooting off fireworks that were upsetting her horses.

Sunday, July 3

Time: 1:36 p.m.

Call Reason: Airport issue

Action: Services rendered

A motorist driving by the Sterling Airport on Greenland Road reported that a yellow/silver glide plane was making a rapid descent into a field on the left side of the highway near the overpass. The caller stated that the left wing of the plane appeared to be at the wrong angle/damaged after landing.

A groundskeeper at the airport told police that a sailplane had in fact made a hard landing, bouncing its tail on the runway. There was no reported damage to the plane or its occupants.
