GARDNER — The driver of a car involved in a head-on collision on Route 140 near Green Street Thursday was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Worcester District Attorney’s Office, the two-car accident took place at 2:30 p.m., shutting down the road in both direction for several hours.
Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by the Gardner Fire Department. One driver – who’s name has not been released pending family notifications – was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Gardner Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.
