CLINTON – At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, Clinton police and fire personnel responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle accident involving two large commercial vans, one which overturned in the roadway.
According to Clinton police, the commercial vans were “heavily damaged” following the accident, which took place near the Citgo Gas Station on Brook Street.
Upon arrival, police noticed that seven people – the driver and six passengers – were trapped inside one of the commercial vans, which is used to transport adults with special needs.
“The Clinton Fire Department did a great job, extricating all occupants of the van, with assistance by CPD officers on scene, and multiple fire and ambulance agencies were called in to assist with transporting the injured parties (all appear non-life threatening) to the Emergency Department at UMass Clinton. The operator of the second vehicle, a work-type van, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” said a release from the Clinton Police Department posted to their Facebook page.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police say charges are likely to follow because their preliminary investigation indicates that negligence was a cause of the crash.
