YARMOUTH, ME — The Maine-based publishing company, Islandport Press, will be releasing Just East of Nowhere, the debut-novel of longtime Boston Globe political columnist, Scot Lehigh, this summer.
Just East of Nowhere is a gritty coming-of-age story featuring a cast of deeply troubled characters caught in the undercurrents of a struggling coastal town in Downeast Maine.
According to a release from the Islandport Press: “The book, with its characters, setting, and storyline, should resonate with anyone who also came from, in singer Kris Kristofferson’s evocative phrase, ‘just the other side of nowhere,’ USA.”
Just East of Nowhere is scheduled for release in July 2023. It was acquired by Islandport Press’ award-winning Senior Editor Genevieve Morgan and edited by Islandport’s Editor-at-Large Ron Currie Jr., an award-winning author who works as a writing teacher.

“In his first novel, Scot delivers the driving prose and attention to detail you would expect from a celebrated journalist,” said Dean Lunt, Islandport’s editor-in-chief. “You combine his writing and storytelling skills with talented editors like Genevive and Ron, and we are lucky to have what is really a New England book-writing dream team. The result is a compelling story that is both beautiful and disturbing and will linger in your mind like a powerful summer thunderstorm ripping along the coast of Maine.”

In addition to The Boston Globe, Lehigh has also worked as a reporter at The Times Record of Brunswick and The Boston Phoenix, where he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist.
