WARREN – Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Worcester man Thursday evening.
At 9:23 p.m. Thursday, State Police were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle accident on the Massachusetts Turnpike (the Massachusetts section of Interstate 90 [I-90]) heading in the eastbound direction in Warren.
According to State Police, the preliminary investigation indicated that a 2021 Subaru Outback – that was traveling at a high rate of speed – became wedged under a tractor-trailer after striking it, then burst into flames.
The driver of the Subaru, Christian Sherrow, 28, of Worcester, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
Following the crash, all lanes on I-90 eastbound were closed to enable cleanup and investigation of the scene. The crash was cleared by about 2:20 a.m.
“The complete facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the State Police-Charlton Barracks, The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section,” the Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.
