LEOMINSTER – On Thursday, June 22, at about 10:03 p.m., Officers Jonathan Benoit and Laurinda Dion of the Leominster Police Department were dispatched to 97 Moorland Avenue following a report of a male in a blue jacket, drinking nips and filming with his phone.
(All of the following quotations were taken from Officer Dion’s printed Narrative for the incident).
“Upon arrival I observed the described male, later identified as Trevor Angwenyi, sitting on a small grassy slope that leads to the swing set behind 87 Mooreland Ave.,” said Officer Dion. “As I approached him, I could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Officer Benoit began talking with him, but he seemed very upset with his family and asked us to drive him back to Kenya.”
While Officer Benoit spoke with Angwenyi, Officer Dion was waved over by a resident of the condo complex who explained that Angwenyi had been out back for almost four hours, drinking and recording with his phone. He said that he called maintenance to report Angwenyi after he observed him “army crawling” next to his car.

Angwenyi, 27, is a student at Fitchburg State University and a resident of 13 Mooreland Avenue.
According to Officer Dion, Angwenyi was “clearly intoxicated and because he was so upset with his family” Officer Benoit requested an ambulance so he could be taken into protective custody and transported to the hospital.
During the encounter, the officers noticed six individuals had exited their residences to see what was going on.
“Trevor stated that his family broke his Play Station and his laptop and was getting very agitated,” said Officer Dion. “Trevor got up and as he was talking, he balled his fists, clenched his jaw and rounded his shoulders like he was going to fight. Trevor was walking around but almost fell over multiple times; Officer Benoit asked him to sit down, but he refused.”
The officers stepped back in order to give Angwenyi some space so he could calm down.
According to Officer Dion, the added space didn’t have an effect on Angwenyi, who allegedly continued “stumbling around, yelling about his broken computer.”
Angwenyi then began walking down a small slope in the ground, stumbled, and struck a black sedan parked in the end spot of the parking lot. (The sedan was the property of the individual who waved Officer Dion over to inform her that he reported Angwenyi to maintenance after he saw Angwenyi “army crawling” near his vehicle).
“I later observed a baseball-sized dent in the rear quarter panel from Trevor falling against the car,” Officer Dion said. “I asked Trevor to please sit down as he had just fallen against someone’s car and I did not want him to get hurt, he complied. I began asking Trevor questions unrelated to the Play Station to redirect his attention to something that was less upsetting. I asked Trevor if he had any medical conditions or took any medications, he said no. I asked Trevor where he was going to school and what for, Trevor answered, but then circled back to his broken Play Station and began getting agitated again.”
When Leominster Fire Department personnel arrived on scene to transport Angwenyi to the hospital, he refused medical treatment.
“Officer Benoit and I both explained to Trevor that he had too much to drink and that we couldn’t leave him alone,” Officer Dion said. “I asked Trevor if he would go up to the hospital to sober up but he said he was fine. The firefighters tried offering Trevor a hand to walk to the ambulance but Trevor said no and stood up.”
When Angwenyi allegedly turned around and began walking toward the woods, Officer Dion grabbed his right arm in order to take him into protective custody.
“Trevor was too intoxicated to care for himself and had caused a scene which drew the attention of multiple residents,” said Officer Dion. “Trevor attempted to keep walking, flexed his arm bringing it to the center of his chest so that I could not bring it behind his back. Officer Benoit, who had a hold of Trevor’s left arm advised me that he was going to sweep his legs, in doing so, Trevor was brought to a prone position. Trevor tried to rip his arm away from my grasp so I placed a knee on his forearm to hold it down; once Officer Benoit had secured Trevor’s left wrist in cuffs, his right arm was brought to the small of his back to cuff.”
Angwenyi was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and wanton destruction of property ~$1,200 (for denting the car).
His bail was set at $40.
Angwenyi was arraigned in Leominster District Court on June 23. He was released on his own personal recognizance under the condition that he stay away from the residence of the individual whose car he dented.
Angwenyi is scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 30 for a pretrial hearing.
