SOMERVILLE – On Tuesday, August 8, Officer Christopher Fusco of the Somerville Police Department had just cleared a shoplifting call when he was flagged down on Grand Union Boulevard by Officer Brian Pavao who was off duty.
(The following quotations were taken from the printed Personnel Narrative of Officer Fusco).
“He pointed out a male party that fit the description of a male who was recently in the crime bulletin under the tab for ‘Looking to ID,’” Officer Fusco said. “The male party in question was connected to several shoplifting incidents in the Assembly Row area.”
Officer Fusco was joined by Officer Gianna Ferrara and Detective Ariel Collazo, who also responded to the scene.
When the individual entered the Express Factory Outlet store, Detective Collazo followed after him in order to compare the man to the picture from the crime bulletin. After forming a consensus that the man was in fact the same individual from the crime bulletin, the man exited the store where he was “greeted” by Officer Fusco.
“He exited the store and I greeted him,” Officer Fusco said. “I asked if he was the party in the picture and he confirmed it was him. Detective Collazo talked to him while I went into the store to ask if he had taken anything. They claimed he took a brown shirt. The party was eventually identified as Mr. Salim Bouanani. Mr. Bouanani gave his identifying information at booking, however continuously lied about his name and address on scene.”
Bouanani, 60, is a resident of 30 Broadway Street in Revere.
“Mr. Bouanani had concealed three shirts from Express in a plastic bag, bypassing all points of sale, without making any effort to pay for the items,” Officer Fusco explained. “Mr. Bouanani was placed under arrest (DL) for shoplifting. A search of Mr. Bouanani yielded a pair of wire snips, a tool commonly used by shoplifters to removed anti-theft devices.”
Bouanani was transported to the Somerville Police Department where he was booked and formally charged with shoplifting by asportation and removal of theft device (one count each).
Bouanani was also arrested on a warrant from the Everett Police Department for the following charges: one count of indecent exposure, one count of shoplifting by concealing merchandise, and one count of receiving stolen property +$1200.
