The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Central Massachusetts and Boston from 4 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Monday.
Forecast Details:
- Snow Accumulation: Heavy snow is expected with total accumulations of 6 to 12 inches in Central Massachusetts and 3 to 8 inches in Boston.
- Wind: Gusts as high as 35 mph.
- Central Massachusetts: The snow is predicted to begin spreading over the region from west to east from 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday evening. Intense snowfall at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour is anticipated Saturday night. There might be a brief lull Sunday morning, but another round of steady snowfall is expected to take place Sunday morning into the afternoon. The snow is expected to stop early Sunday evening.
- Boston: Snowfall is expected to commence on Saturday evening between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., with periods of heavy snowfall anticipated, accumulating at a rate of approximately 1 inch per hour for some time. There is a possibility of the snow transitioning to rain or a mixture of both by early Sunday. A brief lull in precipitation is likely early Sunday, followed by another wave of steady snowfall later in the morning and into the afternoon. Moreover, temperatures, initially in the lower to mid-30s early Sunday, are forecasted to plummet into the 20s by Sunday afternoon, leading to a flash freeze. Consequently, challenging travel conditions are expected to re-emerge on Sunday afternoon as temperatures rapidly decrease.
Travel Advisory:
Travel is expected to be very difficult during the warning period. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel. Those who must travel should carry an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles in case of an emergency.
