ASHBURNHAM — An Ashburnham resident who purchased a “777” scratch ticket on the way home from his grandson’s hockey game became a million dollars richer.
Thomas Ruble, of Ashburnham, purchased the winning ticket at Town Convenience, located at 3 Pine Street in Gardner on Jan. 29, 2024.
The million-dollar prize is the second highest prize offered by the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “777” instant ticket game. The highest prize is $4,000,000.
The odds of winning the million dollar prize in the 777 game is 1 in 1,792,000; while the odds of winning the $4,000,000 prize are 1 in 4,032,000.
Ruble told The Massachusetts Lottery that “he knew that there were still some big prizes remaining in the ‘777’ game” which is why he decided to pick up a ticket on his way back home from his grandson’s hockey game.
Ruble chose to receive his prize as a lump sum payment of $650,000 (before taxes).
Town Convenience will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
