ASHBURNHAM — In the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, the Ashburnham Fire Department responded to a report of a residential closet fire at 23 Chapel Street.
When Ashburnham firefighters arrived on scene at 5:35 a.m., the residence was fully involved. A second alarm was struck for additional support.
Within minutes, the fire was knocked down to just the first floor and the attic eves.
At 6:19 a.m., a third alarm was struck. The fire was brought under control 21 minutes later, at 6:30 a.m.
The homeowners escaped the residence without any injuries.
The following area agencies responded to the scene to assist: Westminster, Gardner, Ashby, Fitchburg, Leominster, Lunenburg, Townsend, and Templeton.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but investigators with the Ashburnham Fire Department say the fire is not suspected to be intentional.
All units cleared the scene by around 10:15 a.m.
