FITCHBURG — Fitchburg fire crews saved two people trapped inside a multifamily residential building that caught fire early Saturday morning.
According to the Fitchburg Fire Department, the fire, on Oak Hill Road was reported at around 3:52 a.m.
When fire fighters arrived on scene, they observed heavy black smoke emanating from the building.

After the fire crews were informed that two individuals were trapped inside the residence, they quickly deployed an attack line fire hose and forced entry into the apartment by breaking down the front door.
Both individuals were rescued using ladders and were safely evacuated from the building. Fire crews then contained the blaze, preventing further spread within the structure. The incident escalated to a second alarm due to the initial intensity of the fire.
Only minor injuries were reported.
The Fitchburg Fire Department received mutual aid from area fire departments.
