Couple burglarize former Winchendon furniture factory, stealing $940 in construction tools including a nail gun, steel wire spool, and Kohler shower set

WINCHENDON — On Sunday, March 17, 2024, Winchendon Police Officers Brandon Lucier and Richard Oinonen responded to a reported break-in at the former Piper’s Grove Furniture, Inc., building located at 1 High Street. The business, which dissolved voluntarily on April 21, 2004, was formed on January 1, 2000, with Todd Parks as its president, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.

“I arrived and met with the building owner, Shaun Dame, and Randy Tenney, who rents part of the building for his construction company,” Officer Lucier said. “Randy showed me an open garage door bay, where a pontoon boat is stored. Randy noticed that the door that leads to the building had been broken, along with another possible open point of entry.”

The officers entered the building, now filled with tools and construction equipment, and conducted a walkthrough.

Dame told the officers that due to previous break-ins, he installed security cameras both inside and outside the building. He also pointed out a few items that were outside one of the garage bays, which made him believe the suspects were planning to return for them.

“Shaun said he would go home and look at the camera footage and stop at the police station after to show an officer,” Officer Lucier said.

Officer Lucier requested backup and shortly thereafter Detective Caleb Similia, Sergeant Gerald Gagne, Officer Daniel Caputi, and Officer Justin Smith arrived on scene.

According to Officer Lucier, when Officer Smith arrived on scene, he met with Dame and reviewed the surveillance footage.

“According to the video surveillance, a male and female party arrived at 1 High Street driving a white Jeep Grand Cherokee at approximately 10:36 p.m. on March 16,” Officer Lucier explained. “The male party is seen entering an open garage bay and picking up a piece of wood. It’s believed the male party used the wood to break open part of the door to make an entry; a white door in the garage bay was seen to be broken. Video surveillance from inside the factory shows the male party breaking a glass pane on the garage door before the male party is seen throwing items through the broken pane to a female party outside the building.”

Officer Smith showed screenshots of the suspects from the surveillance footage to the other responding officers, who collectively identified the man in the video as Casey Davidson.

According to police, Casey T. Davidson, 36, is a resident of 9 Old Gardner Road in Gardner.

“Sergeant Gagne, Detective Similia, Officer Oinonen, and Officer Caputi reviewed the pictures and identified the male as Casey Davidson,” Officer Lucier said. “We have all had previous interactions with Casey.”

The officers also concluded that the female suspect seen in the surveillance footage was most likely Kati Hollenbeck. According to police, Kati (aka Kat) Lee Hollenbeck, 29, is a resident of 13 Regan Street in Gardner.

While investigating the break-in at 1 High Street, Sergeant Gagne, Officer Oinonen, and Officer Lucier went to Davidson’s home at 9 Old Gardner Road for a welfare check on Casey Davidson.

In the driveway of the Davidson residence, police located Casey and a white Jeep Grand Cherokee registered to Casey’s father. According to Officer Lucier, it appeared as if Casey was either loading or unloading items from the vehicle because the rear hatch and side doors of the Jeep were open.

“I was having a conversation with Casey about his Jeep,” Officer Lucier said. “I told Casey he had a nice Jeep, and Casey said ‘until she hit it.’ I asked Casey who, and he said something to the effect of, ‘I don’t know, some Kat Hollenbeck girl.’ Casey said she (Kat) drove it into a stone wall when he allowed her to borrow it. Casey pointed out the dent on the passenger side door of the Jeep while we were speaking to him.”

In the surveillance footage, police say the Jeep backed into a stone wall, damaging the passenger door area. After the collision, the female suspect, believed to be Kati Hollenbeck, exited the driver’s seat to inspect the damage. “The damage I observed and Casey’s story of how the vehicle got damaged were consistent with Kat backing into a stone wall,” Officer Lucier noted.

“In addition, Shaun later provided the video surveillance on a flash drive to Detective Similia, along with a list of items stolen,” Officer Lucier said. The reported stolen items include a variety of home improvement and construction tools such as a spool of steel cable wire, elegant bathroom fixtures in matte black and oil-rubbed bronze from brands like Kohler, Moen, and Peerless, an orange Bostitch nail gun, and a Panasonic vent fan.

“Detective Similia confirmed with Shaun that the female party (presumably Kati) also made entry to the building,” Officer Lucier continued. “Shaun provided Detective Similia with a still shot of the blonde female inside in the building standing next to an air compressor, most likely the air compressor finger printed. The picture was good quality and resembled Kati’s license photo. Furthermore, I searched ‘Kati Hollenbeck’ on Facebook and found a ‘Kati Lee Foxx.’ According to the RMV, Kati’s middle name is ‘Lee.’ Detective Similia has heard Kati Hollenbeck goes by ‘Kati Foxx.’ Kati’s Facebook pictures resemble both her license photo and the still shot of Kati in the surveillance video. Also, the still image of Kati appears as if she is wearing a necklace; after viewing Kati’s Facebook, she has multiple pictures of her wearing a necklace. In some of Kati’s recent Facebook pictures she has both long and short hair, it’s possible she has hair extensions.”

On March 19, 2024, the Winchendon District Court issued police an arrest warrant for Casey Davidson on the following charges: breaking and entering building nighttime for felony, larceny from a building, and vandalize property. Two search warrants were issued to police for the search of the white 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee that Casey operates and his residence on 9 Old Gardner Road. The stolen items police were to search for on the property included the following:

  1. A spool of steel cable wire estimated value $100
  2. Matte black Kohler faucet estimated value $125
  3. Two matte black corner shelf shower mounts estimated value $50
  4. Orange Bostitch nail gun estimated value $200
  5. Matte black Kohler shower set estimated value $200
  6. Panasonic vent fan estimated value $125
  7. Matte black Moen towel bar estimated value $30
  8. Matte black Moen 3pc bath accessory kit estimated value $30
  9. Two oil-rubbed bronze Peerless faucets estimated value $80

“The total estimated value of these items being $940.00,” Officer Lucier said.

At around 1:20 p.m., while monitoring the roads near Casey’s property, Lieutenant Kevin Wolski spotted the white Jeep Cherokee pass his cruiser on Spring Street at North Ashburnham Road, heading toward Old Gardner Road.

“I notified the other officers in the area,” Lt. Wolski said. “I followed the vehicle with blue lights activated and stopped the vehicle on Spring Street in the area of the Bud Barn. All of the assisting officers joined me at the roadside stop.”

Driving the Jeep was Hollenbeck who’s license was suspended. Casey was in the front passenger seat.

Lt. Wolski arrested Davidson on the warrant.

“I also patted him down and located two Hart utility knives in his waist band which were seized as evidence as they matched one left behind at the crime scene,” Lt. Wolski said.

Kati Hollenbeck was placed under arrest for driving after suspension.

Following the arrests, Lt. Wolski drove the Jeep to Davidson’s residence so the vehicle and house could be searched simultaneously.

Police did not find any stolen items in the vehicle; instead, most of the items listed in the warrant were discovered in the basement of Davidson’s residence.

“In the basement, I located the majority of the property listed on the search warrants,” Det. Similia said. “I observed an orange Bostitch nail gun in a case, on a wood stove. Across from the nail gun on the floor was a Matte black Kholer shower set (in box). Right behind the shower set was a Matte black Moen towel bar (in box). In a gray plastic bin on the floor I found a spool of steel cable wire, a matte black Kholer faucet (in box), two matte black corner shelf shower mounts (in box), a Panasonic vent fan (in box), matte black Moen 3pc bath accessory kit (in box), and two oil rubbed bronze Peerless faucets (in box). All these items were seized and secured in Lt. Wolski’s cruiser. Note that during the search, Oficer Brandon Lucier contacted me and advised that Casey admitted to possessing more than one stolen faucet in the basement. The black Moen towel bar, matte black Moen 3pc bath accessory kit, and two oil rubbed bronze Peerless faucets were not listed on the search warrant but were seized as evidence.”

When Det. Simila eventually spoke with Dame, he said the recovered items were his.

“I made contact with Shaun who responded to the station to view the items,” Det. Similia said. “Shaun stated all the items seized belonged to him including the matte black Moen towel bar, matte black Moen 3pc bath accessory kit, and two oil rubbed bronze Peerless faucets.”

Both Casey and Kati were transported to the Winchendon Police Station for booking.

Officer Lucier interviewed Hollenbeck.

“I brought Kati into interview room #2 and read her Miranda warnings,” Offjcer Lucier  said. “Kati wished to speak and signed the waiver of Miranda form. I told Kati I had her and Casey on video breaking into the building located at 1 High Street. Kati alleged Casey told her the property belonged to his grandmother. Kati said Casey was completely out of it and she felt like she was chasing him around. I asked Kati how she and Casey got into the building, Kati said something to the effect of ‘I tried to get him out of there so he didn’t get in trouble, so I followed him inside.’ Kati said she believed a garage door was open. Kati claimed Casey told her he’s been storing stuff with his grandmother because he was going through a tough time. I asked Kati how Casey passed the items to her, she said Casey threw a bunch of things on the ground and said they were his. I asked Kati if she knew the exact items they took, she said she didn’t take anything. I told her we had her on video putting items into the car, she claimed Casey said they were his. Furthermore, Kati said she did not know what Casey did with the items.”

Hollenbeck was ultimately charged with operating a motor vehicle after suspension, breaking and entering building nighttime for felony, larceny from a building, and vandalize property.

Hollenbeck’s bail was set at $540. Davidson’s bail was not included in the court documents obtained by News Link Live.

Hollenbeck and Davidson were arraigned in Winchendon District Court on March 20, 2024.
