SOMERVILLE — Bibliophiles will overtake Union Square Thursday night for Lit Crawl Boston 2024.
Set across various venues in Union Square, this unconventional literary festival features over 20 events, including poetry slams and readings paired with wine, a discussion about The Big Dig, and a talk by historian Brooke Barbier at Remnant Brewing (Beer Garden) about the role of beer and drinking culture during the American Revolution.
Lit Crawl Boston, a project of the Boston Book Festival and the Litquake Foundation, will take place this year from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Among the events this year are:

Live from the Underground — Fitchburg State University professor Kate Jewell will discuss how college and community DJs debated the democratic obligations of their signals. This event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. at The Jungle, located at 6 Sanbourn Ct.

After this artistic dialogue, participants will choose eight of their favorite lines and arrange them into a draft of an ekphrastic poem.
Boston Poetry Slam — Taking place from 7:00 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. at The Jungle, this slam will be judged in the “NUPIC-style” (where the poet with the loudest audience response wins). Audience members are welcome to participate alongside the scheduled performance poets.
Celebrating James Joyce with the Here Comes Everybody [HCE] Players — From 8:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. at Remnant Brewing (Beer Garden), located at 2 Bow Market Way, join the HCE Players as they perform short theatrical adaptations of Joyce’s literary works, accompanied by music.
