WORCESTER — Over 2,000 Massachusetts Democrats gathered at the DCU Center on Saturday for the state party’s annual convention, where the primary goal was to nominate Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is running for her third term.
When Warren took to the podium to address the conviction of former president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, on all 34 counts in the Stormy Daniels hush-money case in New York, the crowd erupted in chants of “Lock him up, Lock him up!”
“The legal system worked,” Warren said. “Donald Trump and his supporters were on attack against the courts, the judges, the juries, the witnesses. But the process worked as it is supposed to.”

Warren added that Trump can “cry, whine and lie, but he is a convicted felon.”
“The jurors listened to the evidence and they found him guilty; now he is a convicted felon,” Warren said. Later adding, “Trump cozies up to racists, white nationalists; he said he will be a dictator from day 1. Listen to him.”
Other speakers, including state Democratic Party Chairman Steve Kerrigan and Governor Maura Healey, encouraged delegates to reach out to their family, friends, and neighbors in Massachusetts and beyond to encourage them to vote for Biden in November.
Warren warned that all progress made by the current administration, including the passage of the trillion-dollar infrastructure bill, student debt forgiveness, creation of a climate change job corps, and the reduction of insulin prices to $35 a month, is at risk of being reversed and undone by a Trump presidency.
In his remarks, Secretary William Galvin announced that he had just finalized the primary ballot for the November elections. While Warren faces no Democratic challengers, three Republicans are competing to run against her in the fall.
The Massachusetts State Primary will be held on September 3, 2024.
The next presidential election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
