Three residents displaced, one puppy saved, from fire that overtook Maynard home early Tuesday morning

MAYNARD — On Tuesday, June 4, at approximately 12:25 a.m., the Maynard Fire Department was dispatched to a one-story home located at 1 Little Road following several reports of a fire.

When crews arrived on scene, they observed heavy smoke coming out a side window. All three residents and one of the dogs had evacuated the home before fire crews arrived. One puppy was still inside the residence.

“A Maynard police officer went into the home but was unable to find the dog due to the smoke,” Maynard’s Fire Chief Angela Lawless said in a statement. “A short time later Acton fire crews located the puppy, who was not hurt. The puppy was given water and oxygen by first responders.”

According to Chief Lawless, it took less than an hour for fire crews to contain the fire to the room of origin and knock down the fire.

As a precautionary measure, one resident and one Maynard police officer were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. They have since been released.

“At least three people are displaced,” Chief Lawless said. “Both dogs are currently in the care of Maynard Animal Control and are believed to be doing well.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the District 14 Fire Investigation Team and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
