Newburyport Fire Department assists U.S. Coast Guard in responding to boater’s medical emergency near Plum Island

NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Fire Department responded to a request from the U.S. Coast Guard on Wednesday morning to assist in a medical emergency involving a boater near Plum Island.

Fire Chief Stephen Bradbury III reported that the request came in around 10 a.m. on August 28 as the Coast Guard was responding to a medical emergency involving an individual on a boat about 11 miles off the shore of Plum Island.

The Newburyport Fire Department responded to the area on shore. The individual was brought to shore by the Coast Guard and then transported to a local hospital by Cataldo Ambulance.

No further details about the individual’s condition have been released.
