Taunton fire crews respond to blaze in abandoned mill

TAUNTON — The Taunton Fire Department responded to a fire in an abandoned mill Friday afternoon.

Fire Chief Steven Lavigne reported that at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, the Taunton Fire Department received a 911 call about a fire in a building located at 106 Oak Street. The building at the location is an abandoned, three-story mill, known to be frequented by the homeless population.

When fire crews arrived, flames were seen billowing from the building.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and stayed on scene to tackle remaining hot spots.

No injuries were reported.

Mutual aid crews provided station coverage during the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Taunton’s fire and police departments.
