Taunton man arrested on arson, attempted murder charges after Grant Street fire

TAUNTON — On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at approximately 7:11 a.m., the Taunton police and fire departments responded to 6 Grant Street after a 911 caller reported a fire.

According to Taunton Fire Chief Steven Lavigne and Police Chief Edward Walsh, Taunton Police Officers Brady Nichols and Jose Colon were the first to arrive on scene at about 7:14 a.m. and reported heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the home. Fire crews arrived about a minute later.

“Arriving firefighters assisted Officers Nichols and Colon as they entered the burning home and helped three occupants exit safely,” Lavigne and Walsh said in a statement.

Fire crews then launched an immediate attack on the fire and brought it under control in about 35 minutes.

No injuries to residents or fire personnel were reported.

Following a preliminary investigation by Taunton police, a 47-year-old male occupant was arrested and charged with attempted murder and arson. He was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday, April 22, 2026, in Taunton District Court.

The fire remains under investigation by Taunton Police Arson Investigator Detective Derek Feeney.
