Leominster man charged with DUI after striking and killing bear in Hollis, New Hampshire

HOLLIS, NH — On Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, at approximately 6:15 p.m. Hollis police officers responded to Broad Street near Pine Hill Road following a report that a motor vehicle struck a bear.

When officers arrived on scene, they determined that the bear was deceased. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Timothy Harrigan, 30, of Leominster, MA.

“In speaking with Harrigan, officers detected signs of impairment and investigated further,” the Hollis Police Department said in a statement that was authorized by Chief Brendan LaFlamme. Adding, “Harrigan was ultimately taken into custody and charged with DUI Aggravated, DUI, and an Open Container violation. The Aggravated charge is due to the fact that at the time of the accident, Harrigan is alleged to have a BAC of .17, which is more than double the statutory limit of .08.”

Harrigan was processed and released on personal recognizance bail with an upcoming arraignment date at the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District.

According to Hollis police, when Harrigan arranged for a ride from the station, the woman who came to pick him up, Sarah Chicoine, 29, of Nashua, was found to be operating on a suspended license and suspended registrations.

“She was issued a summons to appear at the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District to answer the charges of Driving After Revocation/Suspension and Suspension of Vehicle Registration,” the Hollis Police Department said in its statement.
