STOW — Chief Michael Sallese of the Stow Police Department announced in a statement that Bryan McCarthy has officially joined the department as its newest officer.
Officer McCarthy graduated from the Boylston Police Academy’s 34th class on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024. He brings extensive experience to the role, having served as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and worked with the U.S. Department of Defense in Afghanistan. McCarthy also continues his military service as a member of the Massachusetts National Guard.
A 2015 graduate of Worcester Technical High School, McCarthy is currently pursuing higher education at Fitchburg State University.
The Boylston Police Academy, authorized by the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee, provides comprehensive training aligned with the 2020 police reform law. The curriculum includes de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed responses, mental health crisis intervention, and active shooter preparedness, ensuring officers are equipped to meet modern policing challenges.

Graduates of the Academy, including McCarthy, meet the standards required for Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission certification.
“Officer McCarthy has continually shown a passion for serving his community and country, and the dedication and integrity that modern policing requires,” Chief Sallese said. “He already has shown his commitment to Stow by participating in National Night Out and our Stuff-a-Cruiser program. I am sure he will play a vital role in our department in the months and years to come.”
McCarthy joins the department with a strong foundation of training, experience, and a demonstrated commitment to the Stow community.
